Cuba: Design Journal #7 Hotel Saratoga, Havana

Cuba: Design Journal #7 Hotel Saratoga, Havana 💫 perched on the corner of Old Havana, a UNESCO world heritage site, overlooking the Capitolio building's staggering dome, it is clear to see why Saratoga has often been voted Havana's most luxury hotel. Originally built by Spaniard Gregorio Palacios in 1879, the impressive facade and interior detailing has been skilfully restored after becoming derelict in the 1960's, following a period of decline after the Cuban Revolution.

Towering palms border the mezzanine bar area, which sits underneath a glass ceiling which acts as a kaleidoscope, looking up at layer upon layer of pink geometric bedrooms. The colonnade and walkway have been infamous since the 1930's for musical performances, including that of Anacoana, an all female orchestra who challenged the male dominated son cubano music scene.

The luxe rooftop, with pool, bar and restaurant, offer stunning views of the vibrant city skyline and is reminiscent of 1950's Havana when it was frequented by Mafia bosses, a hot spot for the social elite. These days it's Beyonce and Jay Z who choose to stop by. Def worth a visit to drool over the Art Deco fixtures, botanics and views.
